Here is our questions and Bible reading to consider this week. Please email me your responses at angietaylor77@gmail.com

Blessings on you! I am praying for your week!

Scenario:

(You and a partner are working on a project at school. Your partner approaches you two days before the project is due and shows you that he has completed it on his own. The guidelines were that the two of you work on the project equally. He tells you not to worry about it and to just go along because, "no one will ever know.")

A parallel story occurs in Genesis 39. Joseph and Potiphar’s wife aren’t working on a project together, but the Egyptian ruler’s wife does approach Joseph and ask him to forsake his responsibility and sleep with her. The reality is that no one probably would’ve found out. Joseph demands her to leave him alone and insists on being faithful to what his boss has asked him to do.

Read Genesis 39: 1-10

Discussion Questions:
1. How is this different or similar to our scenario?
2. How can something be right or wrong, even when no one seems to get hurt either way?
3. It has been said that the true character of a person is shown when no one is looking. Do you agree?

  3. Hey, I'm kinda late; funny story, I was just sleeping and then I knew I was forgetting something and I remembered about my devotions, so yeah lol, well I read 1 John 2, I think verses 15-17 goes with everyone, I mean EVERYONE, "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever."

  6. 1. How is this different or similar to our scenario?
    a. It’s similar, but not exactly the same. It’s similar because it meant that Joseph didn’t have to attend to his work, and the kid who didn’t do any work still didn’t have to. It’s different in the sense that the repercussions, if they were caught, would be drastically different. There would be more drive to say no in Joseph’s situation rather that the situation of not doing any work in a project.
    2. How can something be right or wrong, even when no one seems to get hurt either way?
    a. It depends on the basis of the decision. If it is wrong to begin with, then it is still wrong. Of it contradicts your beliefs, or contradicts what the Bible tells us, then there will be repercussion of the fact that what I did was wrong, and I will live with that guilt, even if nothing bad came from it, I will still know it was wrong for me to do.
    3. It has been said that the true character of a person is shown when no one is looking. Do you agree?
    a. Yes, but not in all cases. Sure someone can turn out to be a completely different person in private, I bring one of them, but there are some people who don’t act differently with people because they have learned to be themselves and are open about it with others.

  7. 1. Many of us face sin including me and i think that we need to start telling the devil NO because if we don't we will go to hell and then we will remember those days that we had a chance to say NO but we didn't. So we need to be strong in our faith and say NO when we need to.
2.To be hounest I dont no myself how something can be right or wrong because i think that when you are doing something wrong you are ignoring the right. But in this situation i think that Josephs conshens stopped him, from something he would do that he would probly regret in the future.
3.oh totally everyone can feel relaxed because nobody is their to see you mess up or anything, you are safe, and even an example from me i try to act perfect but really im not im totally not perfect i just like to keep all my problems to myself, and maybe this is not right but i feel stronger when i do this, but back to the questions YES people are themselves when no body is their to see them.

  8. 1. In both scenerios they are tempted to not follow the rules but go the easy route

    2. God said to obey your superior and if you don't follow their directions you are disobeying God also

    3. yes because you are not scared about what others will think and you do what you want

  9. 1. i dont think its much different, both of them know what is wrong and what is right... they know the rules...
    2. it doesnt matter if someone doesnt get hurt, your always supposed to do what is right. and i think you know what is right there is always rules to what you are doing... you just dont want it to be taken the wrong way, you start to make excuses.
    3. i think part of it is, there are people that act like themselves all the time... but most of us keep it a secret... maybe because its bad or "good'... idk there is always a reason. for each person it might be different... my personal feeling about it is yes, i do feel better sometimes. there are alot of parts of characteristics in a person... i think its a yes.
