Read John 18:33-38.
In this passage Pilate and Jesus are interacting concerning who Jesus claimed to be. Pilate is struggling with the answer to that question. In 18:37, Jesus says that anyone who “is of the truth hears my voice.”

Discussion Questions
1. What do you think it means to be “of the truth?”

2. If you examined our society, would you say that our country is “of the truth” or not?
Pilate responds to Jesus by asking, “What is truth?”

3. What is truth?
4. Is truth something that is different for different people or is it the same for everyone?
5. How do you decide what is true in your life?

  1. Tonight I continued in Romans 8. So I've been asking who's actually been reading my blog, and apparently no one has, because it's "too long". Well if you all know so much about it, I'm just going to ask you guys the question. I don't want to be preaching to the dust. I need someone to actually listen. And answering the question shows that you will be listening. So, here it is:
What keeps us from completely depending on God? Especially during the hard times?

  2. okay so this has nothing to do with the questions or what i read tonight but i was talking to a friend earlier and we realized that this is a common problem amongst a lot of people [i kinda had no other way to say it so yeahh...] :
it's not that we don't want to listen
it's that we don't want the answer to be God
we want something else to miraculously appear and suddenly solve all our problems
something to wipe our tears away
to help us smile at a new day
    but we can't see
    that what we need
has been here the whole time
    has been watching over us
    since before we were us
    since before others saw us
we turn to people who see us
    when we are invisible
when we need to turn to the one
who saw us before we even existed
the one who made us, us
    who gave us that person...
    that saw us..
    when we were invisible...
We all have friends who will cradle us, and we feel secure. so when our life goes wrong and our friends fall through and can't help us we get upset, but when our friends say "go to God" we just don't want to because we don't listen enough to hear Him. We are all looking for another way something besides God. When in reality the only answer is... God

  5. i am trying to read the whole Bible by easter. i read that in Genesis 1, 2 and 3 that God did not make a mistake in what he created. and that he could have created us to be like robots, but instead he gave us the chose to believe in him or not. and that when Adam and Eve ate out of the tree of life they saw right and wrong like God. the devil is like a serpent that slithers around and is looking for a next victim to attack. we have to keep our eye on the Lord, keep our feet firm in the word of God and resist the temptation of the devil.

  6. Matthew 22:37-39 "Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' "
So first we need to love God and then love others. We all try to love others without loving God, is what it seems like. But... Don't you think loving God first would be much simpler? I mean God is love. Love came from God. You've heard the expression Love is J.O.Y: Jesus Others Yourself.
I'm pretty sure if Joy started with a G it would say God. (but then again Jesus and God are the same person) He comes first in everything. One of my friendships is faltering... and to be honest, it's because of religion. She hates God, she'll say it every other way but it boils down to she hates God. Now i am positive if she loved God, even just a little bit, our friendship would be going a lot smoother.
In everything you do, always put God first. With God always there, things will be much more simpler. (not saying they'll be easy, just simpler)

    2. No, because not everyone in the US is in or with Christ and living for him.
    3. Truth is God and His Kingdom, because Jesus said,..."on the side of Truth"... so the "side of Truth" is God and His Kingdom.
    4. Truth is many things for many people, in the other comments^, they all had something to do with Jesus. So Jesus is the Trinity, which means He is also God and the Holy Spirit. So Truth is and always will be Jesus to everyone, but said in a different way.

  17. 1. What do you think it means to be “of the truth?”

To be of the truth is to be of the Godhead, of Christ, of the Holy Spirit, to have the power, divine inspiration and divine direction in living out our lives on this earth.

    2. If you examined our society, would you say that our country is “of the truth” or not?

Our country is not obedient to Christ and his will, they continually strive towards the separation of themselves and Divine Truth; understanding not the premise of our beginning, as a country and once as a "religious people."

    3. What is truth?

Truth is the absolute or actual state of a matter; it is the conformity with fact or reality; it is a verified or indisputable fact, proposition, or principle set in place by higher standards of morality accepted by a people or religion, and later on skewed and distorted into many views of truth.

    4. Is truth something that is different for different people or is it the same for everyone?

Truth is different for every person; for every person has his own set of moral and ethical standards and opinions, which are based on religion, taboo, opinion, or "divine inspiration."

    5. How do you decide what is true in your life?

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; I live everyday as a sinner in the hands of an angry God, who is both just, but also love - not emotions, but character traits - and peace; Jesus Christ is the Mediator and the Savior of those whom God's wrath has fallen upon, and His truth is the only way of life for me to follow, as long as my compass is always pointing towards heaven. The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

  20. Arden: the answer to your question I beileve to be found completely within what I talked about in chapel, fear. We all know it is right to follow God and surrunder all to him even if tough and hard times, but we hold back because we have a fear that people will judge us for relying solely on our faith in God to take care of us, we also fear the fact that sometimes we are in tough situations because we made a choice we knew was wrong and we fear trusting in God in a situation we are in because we disobeyed him. Also the plain fear in the fact if we trust in God we are handing it over and saying YOUR WILL BE DONE and what God's will is is not all the time what we want so sometimes we have fear in the discomfort of actually following God and I'm listening Buddy they are a bit long at times but if god has given you something to share please do:) I have enjoyed your posts alot and they have helped :)

  21. 1. What do you think it means to be “of the truth?”
I beileve the only way to be of the truth is baseing you entire existence of God, because God is the one the only unfailing truth in our lives. I think the only way to be 100% of the truth is not saying or acting or even thinking of anything but the things of God and surrounding every second of every day with God. And i think it's pretty close to impossible and the only one who ever obtained the title "of the truth" is Jesus.
    2. If you examined our society, would you say that our country is “of the truth” or not? Our society is literally the farthest thing from any truth, we are fed lies constantly and told things that are against god are true.. I think any Christian could tell you our society is very sad and has not an once of truth in it, even our churches are so corrupt that it is difficult to even find truth in the house of God we are in a sad state of affiars and my heart truly weeps for our generation.. we have a long hard life ahead of us.
    3. What is truth?
Truth is God. plainly truth in my life is sometimg I can rely on to always be true a fact a thing a person I know is of the truth someone I trust without a doubt to hold me accountable, yet im not saying at all truth is a pleasant thing I would consider it something to be feared becasue when you surrond yourself yourself with truth you are set free you have no reason to go against God if you know the truth.
    4. Is truth something that is different for different people or is it the same for everyone?
I think it differs from perosn to person quite a bit I dont expect any one else to have my answer or even understand it I think it is completely unique basing on their person walk with god and their past life experienences
    5. How do you decide what is true in your life?
Something that always holds up and that never fails me truth always is something from God :)

  22. Read psalms 91!!!!!!!!
It say that we should not fear any thing because God will hold us up. He says that A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

This is probably my favorite chapter in the Bible!!!!!!!!!!

  23. I think being of the the truth means that you are living a life that is according to the will and the ways of God. When i scan over our society I would say that the majority of the population is not living in the truth. if God is complete truth and the only truth, it is impossible to be of the truth if you do not know him. If the majority of society does not know him then how can they be in the truth? Truth is the true or actual state of a matter, another meaning is a verified or indisputable fact, proposition, principle, or the like. No i believe that truth is the same for every one. John 14:6 says, Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. The way i decide whether something is in the truth i seek godly council and see what the word of God says about it. If the word says it is true it is true.

  24. 1. i think "of the truth" in this passege means to tell God the truth, then he will speak to you,
and off course he speaks to youwhen you lie but you dont always hear what he has to tell you.

    2. i think our country is NOT of the truth, because if it was we would most likely have alot more
answeres. but everyone has different opinions of the word truth so its kind of hard to just have an
exact answer for it.we do we all think truth has a different diffinition. the Christian ways are different
and the none christian way is different. so basically no.

    3. truth- i think truth is something WE all KNOW, for example sombody askes you a personal question,
we know its true BUT we dont want to say it! truth the opposite of a lie.

    4. like i said its diferent for all people. even christians some christians think that gay and lesbion
is ok. but when you look in the Bible its not true, even christians we take the Bible's word a different way.

    5. for me personally if the answer isnt obviouse i usually go to God and he always has the answeres
you just have to be ready to listen and open your ears to him. for others it can be from friends or relatives,
they tell you something and you think THAT is the truth because you trust them and you Know they woudn't lie to you!

  27. alrighty so i finished my devotions: i was readin 2 Timothy (the whole thing) and at some points i had things that stuck out to me and i had questions to them so here it goes: 2 timothey 1: 8 "so do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord..." its paul writing to he's son timothy, when i was reading and thought, if we call ourselves chritians and know what our respnsibilities are why dont we do them? are we then considered NOT christians? were not supposed to be ashamed at what we believe and have faith in! but we dont show it... if you follow God and he's word he will reward you, and you guys arent supposed to do what he wants us to do for a reward, were supposed to WANT to be doing this! cause if we oly do this for the wrong reason and God knows, you might be fooling some people... BUt your NOT fooling God!

  31. and when i do my devotions i have noticed that in every book we start it says Paul and timothy but each time it says something different but just a little bit but i need to have help on what that means. You have to apply that to your own life and its hard to do that over and over again and that the hard part because you can't do the same thing so as Mrs.Angie said just keep lifting the books and thinking hard and it is hard for you to give up your playing time or something and just to worship God or to pray to him and we need to stand up for what is right and and to tell the people you can about the LORD JESUS CHRIST and live for God and not just how you want to.
